Policies & Procedures

Before lessons begin, students and parents are asked to review the Studio Policies & Procedures and sign the document. By signing, you agree to understand, respect, and follow the studio’s current policies for the duration of the student’s enrollment. If any updates are made to the policies, an updated copy will be provided with changes clearly noted.

The studio is committed to maintaining a respectful and positive learning environment. Any behaviour that is disrespectful toward the teacher or the studio may result in lessons being discontinued.

At the Studio:

Students are expected to arrive on time for their lessons. To ensure comfortable and proper playing, fingernails should be kept short so fingertips can rest easily on the piano keys.

Instrument:

To get the most out of lessons, students should have regular access to an acoustic piano or a digital piano with 88 weighted keys, a damper pedal, and a height-adjustable bench. I’m always happy to recommend suitable instruments and help you find a setup that’s a good fit for your home.

Materials:

Students should bring a tote or backpack to keep music books safe and organized, as well as a notebook so lesson notes and practice assignments can be written down.

Performances:

Students are encouraged to participate in two recitals each year—one in the winter and one in the spring—as well as any additional informal or formal performance opportunities that may be offered during the school year.

Yearly Calendar:

The tuition rates are based on a 35-week schedule in the months of September to June. The teacher does not teach during the weeks of Thanksgiving, the week of Christmas, the week after Christmas, March break. the other two unpaid weeks are reserved for the teacher to take off as needed (illness, family emergency, professional development…etc.).

Summer Months:

Summer lessons are optional, but enrolling in a Flex Package secures your lesson spot for the following school year. Summer lessons are a great way to maintain skills, continue making progress, and explore new pieces in a relaxed, flexible schedule.

Tuition and Payment:

Tuition is divided into equal monthly instalments, due on or before the 1st day of the month. Payments are to be made via cash, cheque or e-transfer to lydiakimmusic@gmail.com. If your bank allows, e-Transfer payments can be set up to process automatically each month for your convenience.

Missed Lessons:

Due to my limited availability, rescheduling lessons cannot be guaranteed. However, in cases of unexpected situations—such as accidents, family emergencies, or unsafe road conditions—I will do my best to offer a make-up lesson. In these situations, switching to an online lesson is also an option. Please be courteous by notifying me at least 24 hours in advance of any known upcoming absences.

Discontinuing Lessons:

Leaving is just as easy as joining. I want you here only if it’s the right fit for you. Simply request the withdrawal form from me and submit it before the 10th of your final month.

Parent Participation:

As a parent, your participation is an important part of your child’s progress on the piano. Being involved in practice and supporting lessons helps your child build confidence, develop skills, and get the most out of their learning. I can guide you on how to support your child’s practice at home and help you create a simple practice schedule that fits into your family’s routine.

Photo Release & Permission:

From time to time, photos or videos may be taken of students during lessons, recitals, or studio events for use on the studio’s website, social media, or promotional materials. By signing below, you give permission for your child’s image or video to be used for these purposes. If you prefer that your child not be included in photos or videos, please indicate this so we can respect your wishes. No personal contact information will ever be shared.
