FAQs
Where are your piano lessons?
In-studio piano lessons are held at Faith Christian Reformed Church in the sanctuary. The address is 2265 Mountainside Dr.
Online lessons will be held on Zoom.
How early can a child start piano lessons?
Kids can start piano lessons surprisingly early — but the right age depends on the child.
The typical age range to begin piano lessons is 5-7 years old. However, I have taught 3 & 4-year old children who did exceptionally well in the piano lesson setting. Because it varies from case to case, I have jotted down few things below you can look for to see if your child is ready!
🌟 If a child can:
Count to 5
Identify a few letters
Sit for 10–15 minutes
Enjoy music and want to try
…they’re probably ready to start!
Do I need to have a piano at home?
Yes! It is crucial to have an instrument to practice on, whether it is an acoustic piano or an electric keyboard. The good news is that there are options that would fit any budget, lifestyle, and space. If you need help finding one, I would be more than happy to help you!
How much is tuition?
Tuition is a flat monthly fee, based on a 35-week schedule:
30 min - $165
45 min - $235
60 min - $305
Adults can purchase packages ahead of time:
5x 45 min - $345
5x 60 min - $440
10x 45-min - $670
10x 60 min - $870
Can adults take lessons?
Absolutely! Adult students are the most dedicated students. It is a huge reward for me to walk alongside them as they learn and reach their goals! Adults can choose between purchasing a lesson package or enrolling in a regular weekly lesson.
What if the student’s and teacher’s personalities don’t click?
This happens. This is a reason why I offer a free trial lesson. It gives the parent and student the time to see if they feel like my studio is a place they can see themselves learning in!
How can we cancel a class? Do we get a make-up lesson?
Due to my limited availability, rescheduling lessons cannot be guaranteed. However, in cases of unexpected situations—such as accidents, family emergencies, or unsafe road conditions—I will do my best to offer a make-up lesson. In these situations, switching to an online lesson is also an option. Please be courteous by notifying me at least 24 hours in advance of any known upcoming absences.
What happens if the weather or road conditions are bad?
In the case of poor road conditions, lessons will be held online.
How do I stop piano lessons?
Leaving is just as easy as joining. I want you here only if it’s the right fit for you. Simply request the withdrawal form from me and submit it before the 10th of your final month.
Why do you have trial lessons? Is it free?
Yes, my trial lessons are free! I offer one 30-minute trial lesson so students can meet me, see how my lessons work, and make sure the studio feels like a good match.
How long should a student practice?
For young beginners ages 4–7, a goal of 15 minutes of practice a day, five days a week, is both reasonable and motivating. As students reach ages 8–10, they’re usually ready to handle around 30 minutes of daily practice.
Should my child take 30-minute, 45-minute, or 60-minute lessons?
30-minute lessons are recommended primarily for younger beginners, typically ages 4 to 7, who have shorter attention spans and are just starting to explore piano.
For students ages 8 to 9, beginners may start with 30-minute lessons, but those who show focus and motivation can transition to 45-minute lessons.
Students aged 10 and older generally do best with 45- to 60-minute lessons, as they can handle more complex pieces, music theory, and longer practice sessions.
Regardless of age, absolute beginners may begin with 30-minute lessons to build foundational skills, with the option to increase the lesson length as their abilities and concentration develop.
What is a 35-week schedule?
Some months include five lessons, while others may have fewer because of holidays—but over the school year (Sept-Jun), it always balances out to 35 lessons total.
Our studio takes time off for the following weeks:
Thanksgiving week
The week of Christmas
The week after Christmas
March break
2 weeks reserved for emergencies (teacher sick days, family emergencies)
So depending on the month, you might receive 3 lessons or 5, but you’ll always get 35 lessons across the school year.
Tuition is a simple monthly membership with a flat fee, and you’re welcome to stop lessons at any time—just let me know before the 10th of your final month.
This does not apply to Adult Student Packages and does not include Summer Flex Packages.
Do students have to take lessons in the summer?
Although it is optional to take summer lessons, choosing one of the Flex Packages below will guarantee a spot in the studio for the following school year. Taking lessons during the summer also helps students stay engaged and keep their skills strong, making the transition into the new school year much smoother. Summer lesson packages are priced consistently per lesson. Families are encouraged to choose the package that best fits their summer schedule.
I will take a 3 week break in the months of July and August as well.

Are there performing opportunities?
Each year, we celebrate our students with two recitals, one during the Christmas holidays and the other in the spring! These events give students opportunities to share their music, build confidence, and cheer on their studio friends.
Can I observe my child’s lesson?
Yes! Parents are always welcome to sit in on lessons from time to time. While attending every lesson can sometimes make it harder for students to build independence and a strong teacher–student connection, checking in about once a month is a great way to see how things are going. We do encourage parents to attend the free trial lesson, as it’s a perfect opportunity to observe a lesson and ask any questions you may have. For younger students (ages 4–7), parents are encouraged to attend lessons for the first month to learn how to best support practice at home.
